'As a step toward an analysis of the Latter-day Saint image in travel literature, this article looks at accounts by Britons who visited the Salt Lake Valley' between 1847 and 1877. 'These visitors...described the Latter-day Saints more impartially [than did anti-Mormons].' These accounts are compared and contrasted and comment is made on their reflection of the time's 'values and preoccupations.'
