February 1, 1845 to Oct. 12, 1852. Young writes of the family's journey from Nauvoo, Illinois to the Salt Lake Valley. Weather, landmarks passed, overall landscape, news of friends or family, and descriptions of daily camp life are usually included in each entry. A constant concern for her health is expressed, and the health of others in the camp, often including what actions have been take to improve their condition. LorenzoYoung is also fascinated by the buffalo herds roaming the plains and often comments on them. Very little of the family's life is written after arriving in the Salt Lake Valley with the first company of pioneers.
