"...[R]elying on these variables we undertake in the following pages a holistic analysis of Nephi's writings. The study begins with an examination of the evidence that Nephi had a basic two-part outline in mind when he made his inscriptions on the small plates. We then briefly discuss the possible correlations between the identifiable segments of Nephi's books and the stages of his life in which they were apparently written. This is followed by an extensive analysis of two unifying leitmotifs in Nephi's writing: a pervasive emphasis on record keeping and a constant association of Nephite events and endeavors with precedents set by ancient scriptural heroes. As a conclusion this study argues that there is more to Nephi's writings than meets the eye, that they are characterized decisively and unambiguously by structural and thematic coherence." [Author]
