This article explores the history of irrigating the Virgin River in southern Utah. It discusses the challenges faced by early settlers in their attempts to control and transform the landscape for agricultural purposes. The article also highlights the influence of religious beliefs on environmental policies and the complex relationship between humans and the natural environment. Despite setbacks, the settlers' determination and faith led to the expansion of irrigated land and the founding of new settlements, although water scarcity remains a challenge for these communities.
