This article describes the theological significance of Nauvoo as the City of Joseph: the place where he came to fully understand and complete his earthly mission. It was in Nauvoo that Joseph Smith urgently prepared Church members to understand and receive the blessings of the temple, and where he conferred all the priesthood keys upon the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The events and teachings of Nauvoo are the framework for understanding Joseph's actions and purposes.
