This article describes the impact of the priesthood ban on Church growth in Brazil. Persons who were so much as suspected of African descent were avoided by missionaries, who were told to focus on baptizing White individuals. This practice led to individual and familial complications and the perpetualization of racism. The author suggests that an official apology from the Church to Afrodescendants in Brazil is an important step in remedying the harm that these practices caused.
