"In response to reports suggesting that depression is common among women in Utah, this study compares the prevalence of depression between Latter-day Saint women, many of whom are homemakers, and non-LDS women who are typically more career-oriented. This sample includes white, married women with children fourteen years of age or younger living at home. No difference in the prevalence of depression was detected between the LDS and the non-LDS women. In both samples of women, certain risk factors were identified; less education, little perceived caring from spouse, perception of having less than good health, and low income. Each of these factors is comparable with the results of other studies." [Abstract from chapter]
