"The chief objective of this paper is to reconsider Eve's role as an 'ezer. I will submit that Eve is called 'ezer because she is a life-giver, a life force, and the progenitor of all living, who saved humankind from mortal destruction and extinction. Further, Eve is a shadow to God himself, who is also called 'ezer because he sustains and maintains the life of his human creations and saves them from mortal destruction. To reach that objective, I will examine 'ezer in the context of the Garden pericope, which comprises a series of fourteen statements presented one after another that pertain to life and living. A look outside of the framework of the Garden narrative provides support of what it means to be an 'ezer-- various biblical authors employed 'ezer in their compositions to demonstrate that God himself as an 'ezer protects humankind from extinction."
