“This chapter is an attempt to address the gap in literature by discussing to what extent English Latter-day Saint women are negotiating gender roles that resist, comply, or embrace North American Mormonism. It means moving away from historic studies, that can be argued are a self-interested chasm, as English Latter-day Saint women only seem to feature when they cross the Atlantic (Arrington, 1987; Bartholomew, 1995). Instead, I will focus on the disconnections and connections between English and Utah Latter-day Saint women that link issues of identity, equality, and gender with Mormonism and North American cultural practices.” [Author]
