This chapter examines the complications in scriptural interpretation caused by an open canon. It focuses on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their means of interpreting the Bible as well as other scripture in their canons. Although scripture is generally understood to have divine authority, what that scripture means for a church culture and community can vary greatly. Thus churches must decide who or what has authority to interpret the scriptures and determine how they will be implemented modernly.
