This article gives the history of the Salt Lake Temple foundation, dispelling the folklore that the architecture was previously unknown and was learned by revelation, and that due to defects it had to be completely removed and rebuilt. These stories have factors of the truth, but are largely inconsisent with historical facts. The author concludes that while stories about the Salt Lake Temple can inspire and encourage, they do not need to be fictionally embellished in order to do so.
