"Despite his lifetime of service, very few Utahns knew about Pastor [David Franklin] Griffin or the Church of God in Christ, to which he devoted his life. This article seeks to remedy this oversight by outlining the history of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in the state of Utah. Since the 1930s, African Americans began migrating to Utah and establishing COGIC congregations in various cities. Their Pentecostal theology and worship separated them from the tiny group of African American churches already operating in the state and required church members like David and Daisy Griffin to devote years of service organizing churches and developing their own social networks within the African American community that existed in Utah for much of the twentieth century. Their resilience and endurance in forging a home in the West enriches the history, diversity, and heritage of Utah." [Author]
