"The eighth annual Sidney B. Sperry Symposium was held on the BYU Campus in Provo, Utah, Saturday, 26 January 1980. The program, co-sponsored by BYU Religious Instruction and Seminaries and Institutes of Religion, was designed as a mid-year offering to be of service to the local and university community, and as an inservice enrichment experience for full-time teachers of religion. The emphasis was on the observance of the Sesquicentennial of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Members of the Sperry family were present as were several hundred persons in attendance throughout the day. The papers delivered at the Symposium are arranged in this volume in the order in which they were delivered, and are printed under one cover so as to be readily available for study and reference."
