This article visits three different tellings of a Bolivian village's conversion story in order to examine the forms and role of folk mythology in Latter-day Saint culture. The three tellings-- one by Elder Gene R. Cook in general conference, one a news article printed in the Church News, and one told from the perspective of a native missionary-- demonstrate the varying forms such a narrative can take when presented to different audiences from different viewpoints. While the three stories vary drastically in form and detail, each serves the purpose of conveying the narrative so as to be understood in the social/cultural context.
