"While the development of socialism in Utah in the first two decades of the twentieth century, and the nature of the socialist coalition in the state, resembled that of the party nationally, the existence of a component of active Mormon socialists was unique. The purpose of this essay is twofold. The first is to examine the views of these Mormon socialists. The second is to place their actions in the context of growing opposition to socialism on the part of the Mormon Church. Such an assessment helps us illuminate and better understand the nature and extent of the millennial vision of socialism itself in the early twentieth century." [Author]
