This chapter examines the Book of Mormon in the context of world scripture, looking for similarities and differences. It highlights five characteristics : (1) the Book of Mormon takes the form of a lengthy, coherent, integrated, history-like narrative; (2) it was accepted immediately by believers as canonical and complete; (3) its form as well as its canonical status was relatively fixed from its first appearance; (4) there was no Latter-day Saint Church in existence when the Book of Mormon was first published; and (5) Latter-day Saint canon has not been significantly expanded since the death of its founder.
