"This article contributes to the study of religion in early America by analyzing the ways that Smith composed pseudobiblical literature, a literary genre of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries recently recognized and preliminarily outlined in Eran Shalev’s noteworthy book American Zion. This is important for several reasons : first, as a contribution to this recently identified genre; and second, to contribute to the study of early Mormonism. According to Terryl Givens, Moses 7 was the blueprint of Smith’s restoration movement. It follows that understanding how Moses 7 was composed is central to my overall aim of understanding what it meant to translate the Bible during Smith’s revisionary project." [Author]
