As Latter-day Saint missionaries began preaching the gospel in the pacific islands, many of the predominantly white, colonial ideals of Utah began to influence the politics of indigenous New Zealand converts. This article outlines some of the consequences of this by highlighting the political shift in New Zealand following the result of Maori conversion to the Church.
