"Isaac contracted swamp fever and died on September 25, 1844, near Richmond. He was buried on the Woodward farm, where he had leased property and built a small log home for his family. Following his passing, Isaacs wife and children endured poverty in Missouri and persecution from distant family, who urged Isaacs widow, Mary, to abandon “the mormen sistem,” for there was 'nothing that [is] good in it.' Yet the family held onto their belief, eventually migrating to Utah in June 1861. Since then, much oflsaac’s and Mary’s progeny have served faithfully in the church and, in some cases, were key players in the church’s growth in its first one hundred years.19 Isaacs family have steadfastly defended him and his faithfulness since his death. The specific reasons for Isaac Russell’s excommunication and refusal to gather with the Saints in Nauvoo are mysteries he left behind when he departed mortality in 1844. But another mystery also remains : where is Isaac buried? This article discusses known accounts of Isaac’s burial spot, three prior theories of its location, and two additional possible locations."
