"This article will examine the history of the British Mission Association and the effect it had on both returned missionaries in the United States and members of the church in Britain. Specifically, this work will argue that the transatlantic relationship between church members and missionaries not only served as an important anchor for returning missionaries but also helped sustain the faith of LDS members living in Britain, who were isolated from the main body of church. This article sits within the period that Patrick Q. Mason has highlighted as being largely omitted from contemporary Mormon studies, sandwiched between the well-covered and researched period of 1830-90 and the period of current Mormon scholarly interest, 1945 and onwards."
