"In 1980, Patrick Wong was called to be the president of the Hong Kong Kowloon East Stake by Elder Gordon B. Hinckley of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. After President Wong was sustained, Elder Hinckley turned to the young stake president and asked, “What is your priority?” President Wong answered, “My priority is to go forward and strengthen the Seminary and Institute program[s]-----[That] is the good foundation for the future of the Church.” Elder Hinckley replied, 'You are doing the right thing.' Years later, as an Area Authority, Elder Wong stated, 'I have a testimony of the impact of seminary and institute on the success of the Church. . . . I have found that those seminary [students] became the bishops, served missions, and so forth. That was the [right] priority.' In their 2009 study of Latter-day Saint religious education, authors Casey Paul Griffiths and E. Dale LeBaron noted, 'The network formed by... educators in seminaries and institutes provide [s] an important support in the global structure of Mormonism.'" [Author]
