"Utah's centennial year celebrates 100 years of statehood and the great milestones and accomplishments in Utah's history. In 1997, Utah will celebrate the sesquicentennial of the 150 years that have elapsed since the Mormon Pioneers first settled in the Great Salt Lake Valley. This Centennial Edition of the Statistical Abstract of Utah is designed to provide data and information that highlight the growth and development of Utah. It is the Thirteenth Edition of what has become a triennial publication spanning the past four decades. This compendium of data on Utah features in each chapter the data that records much of Utah's history, its growth, and the changing nature of Utah's economic and social structure. A major goal is to provide information most frequently requested from the Bureau of Economic and Business Research in the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. This edition is improved and expanded. Improvements are mostly reflected in the constant effort to improve the accuracy and quality of data available. Every effort has been made to reexamine each table in prior editions, to incorporate data revisions, and to eliminate errors that inevitably creep into compendiums like this. The explosion of information available, from traditional paper copy to the Internet, has produced a new challenge-that of updating and reconciling sometimes conflicting data. Each table is individually sourced to provide the user with the ability to update the data as it becomes available, or find more detailed information for a specific subject." [Publisher]
