The driving of the Golden Spike was a center point on connecting the Eastern States to the West. However, the author begs the questions "was the spike undriven?". This article argues how building of the Lucin Cutoff in 1904 essentially removed northern Utah from the main railroad line, thus resulting in the dismissal of the Promontory route until 1942.
