About a year before the United States officially declared war, Woodrow Wilson activated the National Guard from all 48 mainland states. Their purpose was to patrol the Mexcian Border to protect any internation threats that would have tried to enter the U.S. through its neighbouring border. However, the author is quick to note in this brief history that many patrols from various states were under trained and under equipped. This history ourlines the year lonf history of these national guard soldiers, with emphasis with those patrols from Utah, leading up to the official declartion of war on Germany in 1917.
