"One of the unforeseen consequences of war was the outbreak of a worldwide influenza epidemic that killed more than twenty-onemillion people. Utah was not spared as the first influenza cases were reported in the state in early October 1918. By 1921, when the epidemic had run its course, thousands of Utahns had been infected and more than thirty-five hundred were dead. The following article, focusing on Utah’s urban cities, gives an overview of the epidemic in the state. [Editor]
