This essay addresses the dependence of Mormons on their livestock in order to receive financial gain. Because the Mormons were removed from the Eastern states, they had less resources and had to rely a lot on trade with these states. In exchange for autonomy and self-sufficiency in Utah, Mormons had to trade animals and animal products. However, the raising of herds of animals had a negative, damaging effect on Utah's ecology. An explanation of farming, herding, and feeding practices, etc.
