This essay is about the desire of Latter-day Saints under the direction of Joseph Smith to establish a city of Zion, or New Jerusalem, in the Americas. It addresses the theology surrounding nature and the domestication/redemption of it, God's providence, and the selection of Jackson County as the place where the Saints would build the New Jerusalem, as well as the gathering of the Saints there. Eventually, church members were driven from Missouri and felt a great loss because they believed that the land was tied to God and His blessings intended for them. A summary of their views on the land of Jackson County in the past, as well as the land legacy that persists in modern Saints' minds today.
