In this book about wolves, the author devotes two chapters to Mormon interactions with wolves along the Mormon trail and later in Salt Lake City. The book proposes that while Joseph Smith had preached against the indiscriminate killing of animals, the Saints' encounter with symbolic wolves, the Illinois mobs, had 'permanently revoked that species' membership among the animal races deserving of human kindness' (148).
