Despite the rhetoric about God that Mormons share with creedal Christians, it is almost as meaningless to apply the standard Christian formulations of the logical and evidential problems of evil to Mormonism as it is to Buddhism. The problems confronting Mormons relating to the problem of evil and suffering are, as they are for Buddhists and process theologians, different from those confronting creedal Christians and most traditional theists. This is not to say Mormon ideas of divinity have eliminated the problem of suffering, any more than Buddhists have, but the problem has to be understood quite differently for Mormons than for creedal Christians or traditional theists. The problems that arise for Mormons have more to do with the possible eschatological triumph over evil and suffering than with whether or not God is responsible for it.
