It is difficult to know how Marian Gardner's experience compares with other sister missionaries, but it does show the opportunities that she had working with a mission president who respected the work women could accomplish as missionaries. She volunteered for a short-term mission at the last possible time. It all happened in one day, from the time her bishop and the two young women walked into the Church office building until she was ready to leave for the mission home. There are no other published examples of a short-term missionary experience, although, according to Gardner, it must have happened numerous times. [Abstract from the author]
