The purpose of this paper is neither historical nor apologetic. The author's purpose is that of comparative religion. He describes this cult in so far as it shows parallels to another great religion of world-history, Islam - parallels not only in its outward appearance but also in its inner essence, which are the more interesting because of a lack of mutual influence and formal connection. The paper culminates in the question of the system or type of religion; whether perhaps Mormonism and Islam belong together as one peculiar type, and what are the characteristics of this type.
