He records the organization of the company on the ship, births, deaths, marriages, accidents, and illness. The author also writes of church meetings, murmuring, and those left behind in England or Denmark. He arrives in New Orleans, and the company is reorganized for crossing the Plains. The author notes the distance traveled, any landmarks passed, and members who are excommunicated and leave Kanesville, Iowa. The company enters the Salt Lake Valley, but as he can find no work, the author leaves with his wife and another member of the Forsgren Company for Sanpete County, Utah.
