"After Joseph Smith III became president of the RLDS church, he sent missionaries to Utah to convert the Mormons who already believed in his father's message. But the RLDS efforts were not very successful. LDS Church members openly opposed the missionaries' efforts. The few Mormons who did join were ostracized by their neighbors, and converts immigrated to the Midwest. Those who did not stay were dissenters from one movement and continued to show their cidscontent within the RLDS church. These disagreements led to continued dissent and sometimes the disbanding of RLDS congregations. This paper examines the Utah members and the branches and some of the reasons for the RLDS Church's lack of success at the tops of the mountains." [AUTHOR]
