The Phelps Family of America, and their English Ancestors, with copies of wills, deeds, letters, and other interesting papers, coats of arms and valuable records
Eagle Publishing Company
Preface: Everything pertaining to the Phelps family, and Phelps ancestry, however trifling, whether in Old England, our fore-fathers' land, or in New England, our fathers' and mothers' birth-place, or elsewhere, possesses peculiar interest and pleasure for us.
We therefore propose in this work, in connection with the genealogy, to include interesting items such as Phelps deeds, wills, signatures, and scraps of history; and Phelps photographs, houses, etc., so that all who wear the Phelps name or have the Phelps blood, in either hemisphere, may desire it as a useful and beautiful book suitable for parlor or library.
We send it forth with full assurance that as Genealogy is as old as the Bible, which is full of it, so our book of Phelpses and their records, will supply a long felt want in our families. As "Our lives are but records laid on a shelf" so posterity's sons and daughters may have their ancestors' lives and records.
And may He who setteth the Solitary in families, who established the marriage relation, gracing it in the days of his humiliation, by his presence at the Wedding Feast in Cana of Galilee' and whose own human Genealogy is given us in the Gospels, prosper it.
