The survival of a few waifs of folklore among the hardrock miners of Utah has an antiquarian interest not only for the collector of American popular traditions but also for the compiler of local social and economic history. These survivals are typical specimens of the fast dwindling body of western mining lore that awaits the hand of the collector-lore without which no chronicle of the human side of western mining can be complete.
