Sociologist Ryan Cragun and psychologist Michael Nielson analyze the social-psychological implications of news coverage of the 2008 raid. They note how subtle biases tended to shape the public's view of the FLDS communities. They trace how the media gradually changed their "framing" of the events as they became aware that less and less evidence of vile conduct from the FLDS would be forthcoming. They also explore how the FLDS community used the media to counter what the primary news outlets were distributing; the FLDS presented their own social-psychological "framing" of the raid.
