There are a lot of works which, in a more or less comprehensive manner, have addressed the burning questions of the time regarding the true origin, spread, and doctrine of "Mormonism." But many of these works have problems because they're based on a false foundation and, in general, exhibit a biased and prejudicial spirit, bringing more darkness than light on the matter. The present work, which requires the right view, seems to have almost solved the task. The authors have tried to get the facts right in connection with Joseph Smith's life. This work is intended for distribution among Latter-day Saints, however, appears to be self-evident, and it may not be necessary to assert that works such "The Times and Seasons," "The Millennial Star," "The Juvenile Instructor," Parley P. Pratt's autobiography, "Scandinavia's Star" etc., were used to prepare for this work. Our lofty brother, Apostle Erastus Snow, under whose board we have worked, has provided us with significant help in this work.
