Thirty years [after my mission], the words "I know the Church is true" are much more complicated than they were when I was a missionary. Each one of those words seems problematic in some way, with the exception of the word "is." [...] Education and life experiences have caused me to critically examine each of these words and have left me more questions than answers. The testimony expression used to be a simple declaration of faith, but it evolved into a philosophical exercise in doubt and perplexity.
