The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) educates its youth through a program of instruction called seminary. All seminary students are encouraged to make daily scripture study a part of their lives, though many students struggle to make this reading a habit. Given the popularity of social media such as Facebook, and the use of SMS technology for texting among teens, research was done to see if using such methods to encourage and remind students to read would be successful in increasing their scripture study. Although results of this study proved statistically insignificant, much was learned regarding students, their preferences, and their desire for a program such as this. Students clearly prefer texting reminders over Facebook, read the reminders they are sent, and would recommend a program such as this one to be implemented in their seminary programs.
