Since its last official statement regarding evolution in 1925, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) has quietly avoided the evolution debate. Because their doctrine includes a living prophet and the notion of continuing revelation, that truth is constantly being revealed—including truths within the science community—, it should be evident that their position regarding evolution has also changed over time. The purpose of this thesis is to show how Mormon thought has evolved, de-evolved and re-evolved during its short history, including how certain church leaders have influenced, for better or for worse, the relationship between science and, more specifically, the doctrine of evolution within the minds of its members. This will be accomplished by presenting, reviewing, and comparing Mormon doctrinal statements made by primary Church leaders, including established Mormon scriptures used by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
