The Nauvoo Brass Band was one of the earliest official musical organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (hereafter referred to as the Mormon Church). The influence of the band in the history of the Mormon Church from the organization's early years reflected things both temporal and spiritual as it called the Mormons to worship, encouraged them in times of triumph and tragedy, and accompanied their songs of faith and devotion. The Nauvoo Brass Band played a significant role in the Mormon's colonization of the American west as it used its "sweet instruments of music and melody and songs" to assist in the acquisition of much-needed funds during their long and difficult journey westward. Throughout its history, the Nauvoo Brass Band assisted the Church in securing its place in the mainstream of American history. [From the text]
