This action research project was developed as a response to a perceived need of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) Church Educational System (CES) to develop a training program for new employees in areas outside of the United States. Under the direction of the CES training council, a pilot course titled International Pre-Service Training Program (IPSTP) was developed, implemented, and evaluated.
The research, including assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of this multinational course for religious educators, was a collaborative problem-solving relationship between the researcher and the CES. The pilot study was conducted in Mexico City, Mexico, and Monterrey, Mexico. Student response to the training course indicated that the information provided had an overwhelmingly positive impact.
The outcomes of this action research project resulted in the recommendation to expand this particular training course to other international areas for current employees and volunteers of the CES. The course was also authorized for training and as an aid in selecting prospective teaching candidates in international areas.
