"One year after [Richarad] Ballantyne's arrival in Utah, he conceived the idea of establishing a Sunday School, the first organization of its kind in the Rocky Mountains. Years later when asked why he was desirous of organizing such a school, he wrote, "I saw that the children from the very nature and circumstance of the people, were being neglected, and I wanted to gather them into the school where the could learn, not only to read and write, but the goodness of God and the truth of the gospel of salvation given by Jesus Christ." Much of the material for this story was taken from the writings of Conway B. Sonne, a grandson." [Author] This chapter accounts Sonne's experience and the establishment of Sunday School in the Church.
