This article covers an overview of the entire scope of William W. Phelps's career, as well as material on Phelps's life before he joined with the Saints that is less well known, which many misunderstand and some have misinterpreted. It also focuses on his contribution to he early printing operation of the church, but elaborates especially on the later Missouri period of Mormonism (1837-39) when Phelps fell away from the church because of errors of judgement on his part as well as the poor behavior of other church leaders.
