During the latter half of the 19th century the newspaper industry in Britain grew rapidly to fill the needs of an increasingly literate population. London became the center of the manufacture of words and Fleet street, the street of ink, became the heart of news publications. Generally, the British press was considered to be a fair and ethical institution, yet grossly untrue fabrications about Mormonism occasionally appeared in print. This became a major obstacle for missionaries in Britain in the decades of the 1880's. The subjects of this essay are Mormon Journalists in Great Britain during this time period.
