In this chapter, Andrew Reed explains the history of the Latter-day Saints and the Russian Empire. In early 1913, a Russian newspaper published an article regarding the "Mormony", describing the rumors circulating a village about a group of religious fanatics carrying out secret rites within their homes. Reed attempts to see how far an understanding of Mormonism reached by 1913 into Russia, a place where there were no Mormons.
