In 1839, Joseph Smith Jr. wrote a letter to the saints while he was incarcerated in Liberty Jail. These writings are included in Doctrine and Covenants 121, 122, and 123. In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote an open letter calling for nonviolent resistance to racism while he was incarcerated in Birmingham Jail. This article puts these two letters into a dialogue; discussing the doctrines of peace, liberation, and justice.
