Richard Howard presents his research on the polygamy episode of that the RLDS church went through during the years 1967 to 1972. Howard traces the RLDS anti-polygamy thought to the 1960s and the church's expansion into India. Proselyting among the Indian people, many of whom lived in polygamous families, created controversy within the church. Another section was added to the RLDS Doctrine and Covenants (section 150) which affirmed monogamous marriage and encouraged the church "to interpret and administer the doctrines and ordinances of the gospel in a manner appropriate to the circumstances in which they find such persons."
