The article discusses the 20th century struggles of the Ute people to re-acquire lands within the boundaries of the Uncompahgre Reservation in Utah. Topics covered include the congressional creation of the reservation in 1882 for Colorado Utes, the opening of unallotted lands of the reservation to white entry in 1897, and the passage of the Hill Creek extension in 1948 by the U.S. Congress to undo some of the damage that opening the reservation had on the Utes and their traditions.
