In September 1933, with very little fanfare, a small article in an official LDS publication disclosed an extraordinary event that grew into the stuff of Mormon legend. Thirty-five years previous, Lorenzo Snow knelt at an altar in his church’s most sacred room inside their most sacred building. He pleaded with God, but no answer came. Snow struggled to his eighty-four-year-old feet and made his way out of the Holy of Holies and into a hallway flanked by the sweeping grand staircase. Suddenly, a brilliant light stopped him. As his tired eyes adjusted, he saw the glorious personage of Jesus Christ standing on a plate of gold three feet above the ground. As Snow gazed up, the two men spoke face to face. [From the article]
